Catalogue No. 2070
This is a set of four William IV (c.1830) mahogany bar back dining chairs. The chairs stand on turned and reeded front legs. The backs of the chairs have a foliate carved centre rail, decorated with scrolls. The top rail is carved with stylized foliage (Anthemon or 'Honeysuckle' was a very popular carved decoration device of this period). The seats are upholstered with a silk fabric, decorated with stripes of blue, cream and beige foliage. The chairs and upholstery are in excellent condition throughout being constructed from the finest quality mahogany. They are sturdy, tight and clean and display a good rich colour. The upholstery shows little sign of use. One chair has an indent mark across the front rail (see photo).
