Catalogue No. 2029
This is a late 17th century (c.1690) oak chest of two short and three long drawers from the William & Mary period. The chest stands on small replacement bracket feet (originally this style of chest would have had turned bun feet). The drawer fronts have a narrow decorative cross-banding of walnut and retain all of their original brass handles and escutcheons (quite unusual to have still in place on an item of this age). The chest is a good warm mellow colour with no damage. There are sympathetically and professionally repaired shrinkage splits to each end and the top.
